20 June - 26 June: Refugee Week

Refugee Week 2010 will be celebrated from Sunday 20 June 20 to Saturday 26 June, to coincide with World Refugee Day on 20 June. First held in 1986, Refugee Week promotes positive images of refugees so that a culture of hospitality, understanding and successful integration is encouraged across Australia.

This is achieved by educating the public about refugees and the many challenges they face, celebrating their valuable contribution to society, and putting people in touch with refugees living in their neighbourhood.

JRS hosts an annual Refugee Week event in Sydney. Members of the public are also welcome to plan their own events, suich as sports tournaments, public talks and morning teas. Information and ideas can be obtained from the Refugee Council of Australia.
